Q. How do I join a fraternity/sorority?
A. At Capital, there is a formal Recruitment
process. Since first year students cannot join a Greek Organization
their first semester, process begins on Tuesday, January 13th at Recruitment
info night. Recruitment is a three-week process where prospects get
to know the members in different organizations by attending parties.
Each fraternity/sorority has three (3) parties.
Q. What happens when RUSH is over?
A. At the conclusion of Recruitment, the members
of each chapter (fraternity/sorority) will vote and hand out bids. A
bid is an invitation to join a particular organization. The person can
then choose to either accept or decline the bid.
Q. What will happen if I get a bid and
accept it?
A. Right after the three (3) weeks of Recruitment,
New Member Education Begins. New Member Education (NME) is another three
(3) weeks where the new member learns the traditions and history of
the chapter, as well as brotherhood/sisterhood.
Q. Do people have to eat goldfish like
in the movie “Animal House”?
A. Not here at Capital. The University has an
extremely strict no hazing policy. Hazing is to harass, or make one
feel uncomfortable, by exacting unnecessary, disagreeable, or difficult
work upon him or her. There have been no recent problems with hazing
at Capital.
Q. I have seen other fraternities that
weren’t listed above. How do I join those?
A. Those are Academic Fraternities, with each
having different requirements. If you are interested in joining one,
consult with your academic advisor for more details.
